Pulitzer Prize Winning Time’s Team Member Escapes Kidnapping of Taliban in Afghanistan: David Rohde, Crisis Reporter

David Rohde was seized in Afghanistan by the Taliban and held in the North Waziristan region of Pakistan. After seven months, David Rohde and Tahir Ludin climbed over a wall and the nearby

Pakistani Frontier Corps flew him to the American military base in Bagram, Afghanistan. David Rohde was the co-chief of the Time’s South Asia bureau from 2002-2005 and wrote for The Monitor.
The kidnapping was kept quiet due to the danger as other governments and officials were consulted about the situation. About 3 or 4 months ago, the Congress released a report aired on the Station that shows all the meetings held, that internationally many reporters and crisis reporters have been killed while exercising our freedom of the press.
David Rohde, years before had been taken prisoner when reporting in Bosnia. In other parts of the world, kidnapping is common and is referred to as an industry, it sounds like people make money from it. David Rohde was researching the history of American involvement in Afghanistan. Amnesty International  and Human Rights Watch have both published reports on the subject.
David Rohde was the “First” Western Journalist in Bosnian Serb territory, he searched and found evidence of mass graves that caused him to be turned over to the Bosnian Serb authorities and imprisoned. He was released after 10 days.
Other countries do not hold the same respect for freedom of information. United States of America has many faults and still needs improvement, but it still looks a lot better than the rest of the world.
