The Senate reached a bipartisan agreement intended to end a dispute over disaster relief spending that threatened to cause a partial shutdown of the government at the end of the week.
In two votes, the Senate approved short-term spending measures to fund the government for the start of the new fiscal year that begins Saturday. The deal hinged on FEMA's new assessment that it has sufficient funding for the rest of the current fiscal year.
The measures now go to the House, which would need to approve them to ensure the government continues to be funded after Friday.

Los Angeles Times | Sept. 25, 2011 | 9:15 p.m.

FBI agents probing misconduct allegations in the L.A. County Jail orchestrated an undercover sting in which they paid about $1,500 to a sheriff's deputy to smuggle a cellphone to an inmate, sources said.

The revelation is the first public indication that the FBI's investigations into claims inmate beatings and other deputy misconduct have uncovered possible criminal wrongdoing.

The Los Angeles coroner has ruled that Jackson's death on June 25, 2009, was caused by an overdose of the anesthetic propofol combined with other drugs. Prosecutors have accused Murray of having a role in the overdose and he could face up to four years in prison if the jury finds him guilty.

From: Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard

I am writing to alert you of important decisions being made at the United States Postal Service (USPS) in the very near future that may impact you directly.
As you may be aware, the USPS is experiencing an unprecedented financial crisis and among the many actions being taken to address the situation is the review of what the USPS terms as low-activity post offices for possible closure or consolidation. It is my understanding that the post offices being studied were identified based on activity in retail sales, foot traffic, revenue and proximity to other post offices.
As part of the review process, the USPS is holding community meetings to receive feedback from the public regarding each post office they are considering for closure or consolidation.
It has come to my attention that the following eleven post offices in our 34th Congressional District have been identified as having low-activity and are being studied for possible closure. The list below provides the name and address of the post office being considered for closure along with the community meeting location, date and time.
