Sheriff's deputies fired upon in West Valinda
Assault with a Deadly Weapon (firearm) against sheriff’s deputies
Tues., 03-07-2011,10:41 PM
700 Block of Vineland Avenue, West Valinda
Suspect: George Calderon, male Hispanic, 30 years-old

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to Industry Station responded to a burglary in-progress call in the 700 block of Vineland Avenue in West Valinda.

Upon arrival, the deputies heard two (2) gunshots coming from the location. The deputies contained the area and requested additional resources including a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team from the Special Enforcement Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Family members at the location were contacted and advised deputies that the disturbing party was their adult son, who was inside of the location, and confirmed that he had discharged a firearm.

After several attempts to contact Calderon he surrendered without incident. A check of the location resulted in the recovery of a 12 gauge shotgun which was owned by the suspect.

Deputies located shotgun round damage to a carport, which lead them to believe the suspect had discharged the firearm in their direction when they arrived at the location.

The suspect was booked at Industry Station for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, Negligent Discharge of a Firearm and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.

No deputies or citizens were injured as a result of this incident.
