Politics News Alert: Senate passes three-week spending bill

The Senate on Thursday passed a stopgap measure funding the federal government, sending the bill on to President Obama for his signature. The measure, which passed on an 87-to-13 vote, keeps the government funded through April 8 while enacting $6 billion in cuts. Obama must sign the bill into law before Friday in order to avert a government shutdown.
