Breaking News Alert: Trail to bin Laden compound began with a call
May 6, 2011 8:50:16 PM

When U.S. intelligence officials learned the contents of a key telephone exchange, they knew they had reached a major moment in their decade-long search for Osama bin Laden. The call led them to the unusual, high-walled compound in Abbottabad, where al-Qaeda's founder was shot and killed by U.S. forces Monday.
“This is where you start the movie about the hunt for bin Laden,” said one U.S. official briefed on the intelligence-gathering leading up to the raid.
